Gateway

Throughout the year, Gateway does its part in raising awareness and acceptance of autism, be it on our blog, social media or at professional conferences. The month of April, which is National Autism Awareness Month, is especially important for this cause. One of the best ways to help people understand what autism is and what it is like for individuals who have it is to make the condition relatable. Just last week, the highly-acclaimed series Sesame Street introduced a new character, Julia, who has autism.

This is an important step in the right direction: the show is one of the most successful and widely-watched television shows in the United States. Having it introduce what autism is to a broad audience can make meaningful strides in improving how people, especially children, are treated by their peers.
