Now that summer has officially ended, it is time to get ready for the season of apple orchards and pumpkin patches! Our surrounding communities provide ample opportunities for you to gather your family and make lasting memories. Whether you would like to enjoy the crisp fall air or catch a movie indoors, there are many options that will suit your family’s needs. Below we’ve highlighted a sample of upcoming events, sponsored by local organizations who help to provide fun and festive activities geared for children, adolescents, and adults with special needs.

GET MOVING

Check out these fall events that are taking place in your area! Full of movement and socialization, these events provide an opportunity for you and your child to get out of the house and enjoy dancing, playing, and much more:

      Oakland Yard Athletics
      Oakland Yard Athletics would like for your family to attend their Family Fun Day for Children with Special Neuromuscular needs October 7th from 12:30pm to 4:00pm. What a great opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy an evening full of fun activities! For more information take a look at their website.
      Troy Community Center
      Looking to show off yours or your child’s dance moves? Troy Community Center is providing you with an opportunity Friday October 12th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm! Come enjoy a night out while dancing with your family to a live DJ. More information is located @ rec.troymi.gov.
      Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum Autism Family Night
      The museum will be dimming the lights and turning down the sound October 16th from 5:00pm – 7:00pm to accommodate sensory sensitive individuals that would like to take a look thought their galleries! Check out their website to learn more.

SIT BACK AND RELAX

Some days are better when you can sit back, relax, and enjoy a movie with family or friends. Here are a few opportunities to get together with other special needs families who understand that not all movies require silence. These venues provide an environment where laughter, dancing, and moving around the aisles are welcomed!

      AMC Sensory Friendly Film Showing
      AMC forum 30, Livonia 20, and Star Gratiot are hosting sensory friendly showings that allow families with special needs children to attend. These cinemas create environments suited for sensory sensitive children ages 5 and up. Here are the dates AMC will be hosting sensory friendly showings: October 9th @ 7:00pm, October 13th @10:00am, October 23rd @ 7:00pm, and October 27th @ 10:00am.
