This Memorial Day weekend, we are proud to honor those who have served and continue to serve our country. We look forward to a weekend of spending time with loved ones and taking time to remember and give thanks for all our military service members, past and present. For those of you looking to get out and enjoy some local festivities this weekend, there are a variety of activities in our community, from a Civil War remembrance at Greenfield Village, to train rides at Joy Park in Clinton Township, to a Memorial Day run for charity in Novi. And if you have a tradition of attending Memorial Day parades, or are looking to start one, there are some great local options, including the following: Sterling Heights, Dearborn, Dimondale, St. Clair Shores, and Royal Oak.

We understand that many holiday festivities can be difficult for children with special needs, who may have sensitivities to things like loud noises or large crowds. If you’re looking to spend time with family in a more sensory-friendly environment this weekend, you could check out some special film showings at AMC Theatres or the Ann Arbor Symphony’s “Sensory Friendly Saturday,” which is free to the public and features a musical performance and a hands-on experience with brass instruments.
