Michigan Autism Conference 2019

Over the past weekend many of Gateway’s Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) ventured off to Kalamazoo, MI to further their education in ABA. Kalamazoo hosts the Michigan Autism Conference (MAC) annually and is able to draw some of the most recognized researchers and clinicians in the field. This event offers both newer and more seasoned BCBAs an opportunity to discover the most cutting-edge treatments being developed across a variety of domains. From feeding programs to teaching independent play, there is a seminar for everyone.

We were so excited that one of our very own clinicians presented her research at this year’s conference. Delaney Kamm, a practitioner at our Sterling Heights location, presented research that she completed while obtaining her master’s degree at Oakland University. Delaney worked with a young client at OU who was tensing her body so tightly that she was beginning to break her teeth. In addition to the safety concerns, these behaviors were making it difficult for the child to acquire new skills. Delaney and her supervisor implemented a procedure to help this little girl manage her own behaviors. This intervention is still in place today and is helping this child learn new skills and save her teeth.

We are fortunate to have such compassionate clinicians like Delaney on our team. She has so much passion and dedication for the clients and families she works with. We want to give a big shout out to Delaney – keep up the good work and thank you for all that you do!
