Caroline Kelly, M.Ed.
Behavior Consultant
Gateway is so lucky to have the wonderful Caroline. She was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina and attended college at the University of North Carolina Wilmington where she obtained a B.A. in Spanish and a K-12 teaching license. Upon graduation, Caroline accepted a position to implement a foreign language program at a private school, but found herself drawn to the children who were struggling. A couple years later she shifted to special education.
After receiving her Montessori Certification 3-6, and a K-6 Elementary Teaching License, she began graduate studies at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill (Go Tar Heels!). She received her M.Ed in Early Childhood Intervention and Family Support. Caroline recalls, “I was fortunate with the number of learning opportunities I was given through this incredible program and during my work as an educator in a variety of school settings.”
Collaborating with families, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and special education teachers helped fine tune Caroline’s focus. After graduating and getting married in the summer of 2015, Caroline moved to Michigan and started her journey at Gateway as a Behavior Technician in September. Caroline is now a Behavior Consultant completing Applied Behavior Analysis courses through Penn State University. Caroline says, “My favorite part of the job is that I can celebrate the successes with kids and their families, however small they may seem at the time. One glance, one smile, one sound, one wave… makes it all beyond worth it. I feel tremendously lucky that I am able to be a part of such a passionate organization, and we are able to work with incredibly inspiring kids each day.”
When she is not at Gateway, Caroline enjoys spending time with her husband and family, visiting North Carolina, watching Carolina Panthers games, and spending time with her four rescue dogs.
